Christmas 2011

God definitely blessed our family big time this holiday season. The Lord granted us travelling mercies as we traveled to San Diego and back and the kids did great both ways. DVD’s in cars are AWESOME! Once down in SD, we planned visits with friends and family almost daily and we got to meet lots of new babies. Luke and I also planned a date night, had a family snow adventure in the local mountains and went to the SD Zoo. What a gift! It can be lonely in a new city and seeing family and friends really renewed my/our spirits.

What did the Shiras household get for Christmas? Lots of amazing gifts!

Luke – He ordered the Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone for himself. He’s been drooling over this phone for months now. He also received a few movies and the Apples to Apples game.

Julia – After wishing for a personal cutting machine for years, I now own the KNK Zing. I can’t wait to see what kind of craft projects I create with this machine. I also received The Excellent Wife audio CD and study guide, the Sarah Bareilles Kaleidoscope Heart CD as well a few scrapbook items.

Corbin and Benjamin – They now have more Legos, Pirate items, Mega Bloks and movies than ever before. Corbin scored 4 new pirate action figures from the Pirate of the Caribbean movies, a Pop-Up Pirate game, DVD’s such as Sword in the Stone, Dumbo, Polar Express and Fox and the Hound. Benjamin received pirate tub toys, a bubble mower, a Mega Blok table with lots of blocks to go with it and a Thomas and Friends toy set too. I know there are many more that I’m not even thinking of.

I know what I plan on doing this week…purging old toys!

Beach in December

There are certain things you should do when you are in San Diego. The beach is definitely one of them.

A good friend of mine and I finally got together after almost a year. We shared a long overdue conversation about life’s ups and downs while eating yummy Chipotle in Oceanside. Afterward, we jumped in the car and found an amazing strip of beach in Carlsbad. Being December, it was a bit nippy, but the view was undeniably beautiful and the sea air, birds flying overhead and good company was exactly what I needed at that moment.

Snow Day Collage

Yesterday we went to Mt Laguna for a snow day. It was a spontaneous trip as most of our adventures are. After picking up a parking pass, we found a great spot hidden from the main road. We spent the morning climbing the snowy hill, sledding, throwing snowballs, making snow angels and taking in the amazing views. And even though I spent much of my time trying to appease Benjamin, we all managed to enjoy ourselves.
